The Full Story

Fly UX

In 2019, I was working at Cricket & Co as a graphic and fashion designer. Working there, I have discovered the jobs in the tech industry and developed a fashion for UX design.

During the Covid outbreak, I have decided to fulfil this passion by studying UX design with the UX Design Academy. As part of the studies, we were given the challenge to build an airline app.

01. Benchmarking & Notes

To start this project, I have started by observing 2 different usability tests that were provided by the course. I have also analysed real life apps such as the British airways app and the Ryanair app to see what the do well and what could be improved.

02. Usability Testing

After observing a few usability tests, I have made my own. Using Camtesia and Reflector, I have managed to track and record my users every single move and made sure I asked many questions along the way ... My usability test has been proven very helpful research data in order to create the most user friendly Airline app.

03. Affinity Diagram

A.K.A. the KJ method.

Example of the result of a collaboration with other UX designers in training. The aim was to group all of the research data into one document in order to have a better vision of all the data that was gathered in our various research techniques

04. Customer Journey Map

Tracking down the overall mood of the user while using airline apps was very interesting.

Making this document with all of my research data, really helped me to identify the main issues found in many different airline apps that I could solve while designing mine.

Please find here a customer journey map I have made for the project.

05. Interaction Design

After having all of the research gathered I sketched out the mobile screens for the airline flight booking process. The objective was to address the issues and user goals identified in the research and analysis. Sketching on physical paper helps me to really focus on the research before putting it into action digitally.

06. Flow Diagram

Creating a Flow diagram for my future app. This is stage one in prototyping and I can now see where I am going.

I am trying to solve the following main problems I have found in various travelling mobile apps :

1) The different fares are hard to understand

2) The app is asking me too many times if I want an upgrade

3) Is there a layover ? (this app will say it as soon as the destination is added)

4) Selecting seats is not always easy; what is included in my fare ?

07. Prototyping

After designing the high-fidelity screens on Adobe XD, they can be tested using Adobe XD screen preview.
